Dot Kowal

Dot Kowal was born and raised on the east coast and earned her BA in English from Williams College in Williamstown, MA. After graduating, she moved to California to pursue a career in film and music in Los Angeles.

Graduate school and a career change brought her to the Bay Area, which is when she began working in independent schools.

After working in college counseling for a decade, Dot also took on the role of Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Sonoma Academy, before taking on her current role as the Head of Upper School, at Crystal Springs Uplands School in Hillsborough, CA. Her work is and always has been about making a difference in individual lives through equity-minded and inclusive practices and policies. In addition to her work as a trustee for TPS, she has served on the board of directors of Northern California POCIS (People of Color in Independent Schools) and is a frequent presenter at the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) People of Color Conference, and the California Teacher Development Collaborative (CATDC). Dot lives in Half Moon Bay, with her husband and two daughters.
