Presentation Schools offers a fabulous art enriched education. Regular classes include art projects along with an art docent program centered around art education. Each year the school focuses on three renowned artists. Students learn about the history of these great artists and create inspired projects. Beyond student’s regular classes, Presentation offers art lessons twice week to third through eighth grade in our wonderful art studio.
These classes are taught by Mrs. Brayton who is also a working artist in our community. Mrs. Brayton holds a bachelors degree in sculpture and is currently finishing her Masters in painting. Along with an art studio, our school is fortunate to have a kiln that was christened with the nickname “Leonardo” at the time of its donation.
Presentation students get the opportunity to learn and explore a wide range of art materials and applications. Some of the wonderful projects that can be seen through the year include; art journals, drawing, perspective lessons, watercolor, paper mache, collage, mask making, team building projects and ceramics.
Some of the art highlights of the year are the third and fourth collaborative themed art/chair sculpture for the Marin Fair. The students have a wonderful time working together and enjoy seeing their art out in the community. Another favorite art project is the seventh and eight grade kinetic sculpture contest/ marble maze. Students work in teams to build a themed sculpture that allows a marble to travel through it.
At the end of our school year our young inspiring artists get to exhibit their masterpieces at our yearly art show which is spearheaded by Donna Steffy. This event is a wonderful culmination of everyone’s work and gives a chance for our students proudly display their pieces in a professional setting.
After schools classes in the Arts through our PERKS program enable students to pursue specific areas of interest in more depth including Advanced Oil Painting, Clay, Cartooning, Collage and more.
