Academics
To understand completely the focus on academic excellence for
all students, it is necessary to come and visit the Presentation
School in Sonoma. A private visit affords you the opportunity
to talk with students, with teachers and with the Head of School.
Our students are encouraged to be productive, resourceful,
educated and self-directed in their school work, their play
time and their home time. This involves taking time with each
student, meeting their needs, listening to their stories and
giving credibility to their points of view.
We are proud to report that in grades one though eight, 72%
of students tested higher than their actual grade level in the
core subject areas measured by the Stanford 9 tests. Typically,
our students' class average ranges on those tests from the high
seventies to the high nineties. These "average" scores
for the class are particular to each grade class and that clientele.
In practice, we determine reading, language arts and math instructional
levels based on ability and skill development rather than age
or grade level. As an example, a fourth grade student could
very well be in a level six reading or math group. This procedure
assures that each student is challenged at an appropriate level.
Our instructors are well-versed in the varying learning styles
of our students. Evaluations of each student's strengths and
learning style is conducted annually. In each classroom, the
skill being taught for mastery is being taught in varying ways
to address the best method for each learner to assimilate the
skill and apply it to his or her own work.
Here is a sampling of recent student standardized test results:
